The Eaton Fire started on Tuesday night near a canyon in the vast national forest areas north of downtown Los Angeles and had grown to nearly 14,000 acres by Friday, with 3% containment, as reported by Cal Fire. The agency indicated that over 5,000 structures were likely damaged or destroyed by the fire.
The Hurst Fire began as a brush fire on Tuesday night in Sylmar, a suburban neighborhood north of San Fernando, and rapidly expanded to 500 acres, according to Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristen Crowley. By Thursday night, it had grown to 771 acres and was 37% contained, as reported by Cal Fire.

The Kenneth Fire began on Thursday evening in the Woodland Hills area of Los Angeles, close to the Calabasas neighborhood, as reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department. By Friday afternoon, it had spread across 1,000 acres and was 35% contained. Officials swiftly halted the fire's forward progress on Thursday night.
The Archer Fire ignited on Friday in Granada Hills, a neighborhood within the San Fernando Valley. By Friday afternoon, it had spread over 19 acres and was 0% contained.
Wildfires in and around Los Angeles have devastated the homes of several celebrities and forced evacuations for stars like Mark Hamill, Mandy Moore, and James Woods. On Wednesday, Moore, Cary Elwes, and Paris Hilton were among those who reported losing their homes to the fires.
By Friday afternoon, at least 11 individuals had perished in the fires, as reported by the Los Angeles County medical examiner's office. The office indicated that confirming the identities of the deceased could take weeks. Officials stated on Friday that six fatalities occurred in the Eaton Fire and five in the Palisades Fire.
The Palisades Fire is one of the most destructive in Los Angeles history, Crowley said.
An aerial survey indicates that approximately 5,316 structures have been destroyed in the Palisades Fire, according to Cal Fire on Thursday. Marrone mentioned that about 4,000 to 5,000 structures might be damaged or destroyed in the Eaton Fire.
JPMorgan estimates that this week's fires could result in over $20 billion in insured losses and $50 billion in total economic losses, surpassing the $12.5 billion insured damages from the 2018 Camp Fire, the previous most costly blaze according to Aon.
