Crews improve containment on Palisades, Eaton fires as winds die down
As the hazardous winds decrease, residents are increasingly frustrated as they anxiously await to assess the remains of their homes. However, there is also an increasing risk that severe fire conditions could reemerge in Los Angeles and Ventura counties beginning early next week.

Pacific Palisades 90272 Fire Update
Containment: As of approximately 7 a.m. on Friday, the fire was 31% contained, an increase from 27% on Thursday evening. It has scorched 23,713 acres.
Damage: Officials have confirmed 1,280 structures are destroyed and 204 damaged, with totals expected to rise.
Lives Lost: Authorities have verified that the Palisades fire has resulted in 10 fatalities.
Evacuations: Certain mandatory evacuation zones were reopened exclusively for residents. According to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, residents need to present a valid photo ID that includes their name, photo, and physical address, like a driver's license. Containment: As of 7 a.m. on Friday morning, the fire was 65% contained, an increase from 55% early Thursday. It has scorched 14,117 acres.
Damage: Authorities have verified that 4,718 structures have been destroyed and 679 damaged, with the numbers likely to increase.
Lives Lost: Authorities have verified that 17 people have died due to the Eaton fire.
Evacuations: The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department stated on Thursday that individuals residing along Canyon Crest Road into the Meadows east of El Prieto Road are now permitted to return to the area. Residents need to present a valid photo ID that includes their name, photo, and physical address, like a driver's license. Efforts to combat the fire remain focused on constructing and enhancing containment lines, prioritizing public safety and the protection of structures. Residents who are returning home should exercise extreme caution. The Angeles National Forest is working in unified command with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Los Angeles City Fire Department.
The Hurst Fire began at 10:29 p.m. on January 7 in Los Angeles County. After burning for six days, it has affected 799 acres. By Monday evening, a team of 300 firefighters managed to contain 97% of the blaze. Investigations into the cause are still underway.

Update: Kenneth Fire in Ventura County remains at nearly full containment
The Kenneth Fire began at 3:34 p.m. on January 9 in Los Angeles, Ventura County. After two days, it had burned 1,052 acres. By Saturday evening, the fire crew had managed to contain 90% of the fire. The cause is still under investigation.

Firefighters spent the day extinguishing hot spots and strengthening containment lines, contributing to the fire's overall containment. This evening, they will continue to monitor and patrol to ensure the fire stays within its designated perimeter.
The brush fire ignited Thursday afternoon close to Victory Boulevard and Gilmore Street, near the 101 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley area. The flames rapidly advanced towards residential areas, prompting fire officials to enforce mandatory evacuation orders. Firefighters encountered difficulties in combating the fire due to the rugged terrain and strong Santa Ana winds.
